My Mother
My first job was working as a switchboard telephone operator. My Mom also worked as an operator for many years. She also, worked with me at the Southern New England Telephone company (SNET) in Norwich, CT
My photo is from the 1970's. My favorite this week!
Bird MigrationTaken this year, about a month ago, at Parker River National Wildlife Refuge. It's located on Plum Island in Newbury, MA (about 30 miles from my home)
This week in Woodstock, New Hampshire. The foliage is very early this year, some say it's because of the drought. Everything here is very dry. This picture was taken at the base of Loon Mountain Ski Resort,
about two hours from home.

...I remember phone operators in the '50s, how times have changed.
ReplyDelete...how I wish that some of our geese would MIGRATE!
...this was a summer filled with MANY sunflowers.
... your MANY leaves and rocks look like the Adirondacks!
Thanks Dawn for stopping by, take care.
I will guess that hose birds are going south for the winter.. They may come here, we call them and the people who winter here "Snowbirds". 1970's? I guess they still had switchboards, that was almost 50 years ago.
ReplyDeleteNice picture of Woodstock, I haven't been there. Too far for my Vespa Motorscooter that was getting old, a 1955 Sears model.
Hi Jim,
DeleteYes, 1970's. Hard to believe 50 years ago. I started working there in 1969. I loved working on the switchboard. We also worked information 411, as you can see in the photo, we had one book in front of us and one to the side. The books were huge, we covered all of Connecticut. Our switchboard covered the Norwich and surrounding areas, which included calls made from coin booths, too. Fun job!
Dawn, that was neat working with your MUm. I love the sunflowers. They brighten up everything and spell out JOY. Have a great week ahead.
